-
Describe Yourself:I am a little over a year and a half away from finishing a paralegal degree program. However, I consider my true vocation to be creative writing. If I was put here for any conscious purpose, it's probably that. Or so I like to think on my better days.
My sense of humor is usually dark, dry, and sarcastic. Or else obscure. I don't give free reign to my silly side for fear of looking too silly and I sometimes don't catch the obvious joke.
I enjoy life and find it endlessly fascinating. Who we are, who we were, where we've been, where we're going, etc. -
On Gather, I'm Looking For ...:I'm looking to offer any feedback I can to those who write with serious artistic ambitions and goals and I seek the same. Constructive feedback that will enhance our talents as artists.

Favorite Music, Artists, Genres:I enjoy hard rock, classic rock, heavy metal, traditional country, traditional folk music, blues, singer/songwriter types, progressive rock, classical music, and jazz. I gravitate to the guitar as an instrument, but it's the quality of honesty that I hear in the music that matters most. Bob Dylan is, undoubtedly, my favorite. Other important artists are Deep Purple, Muddy Waters, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Chris Whitley, Van Morrison, The Rolling Stones, Skip James, Dock Boggs, Patti Smith, and many, many more. I'm a bit of an obsessive when it comes to music. Shocking, eh?

Favorite Books, Writers, Genres:Amongst the novelists, Philip Roth is my favorite living author. Other important living novelists for me are Jonathan Frazen and Don Delilo. Other living novelists that I have respect for are Saalman Rushdie, Martin Amis, Amos Oz, Milan Kundrea, John Irving, Denis Johnson, and John Updike, among others., In the roll call of famous dead novelists, I admire such artists as Ernest Hemingway, Graham Greene, William Faulkner, Tolstoy, Dostevesky, Saul Bellow, Proust, Flaubert, Norman Mailer, Malcolm Lowry, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Other personal notables are Melville, Joesph Conrad, William Styron, Raymond Chandler, and Bernard Malmaud. Poets I especially admire are John Berryman, Lord Byron, Delmore Schwartz, Anne Sexton, Robert Lowell, Ted Hughes, Rimbaud, William Blake, Rilke, John Keats, and Yeats. I enjoy horror, fantasy, and mystery fiction a great deal as well. Among my favortie writers in those genres are Stephen King, Clive Barker, Ramsey Campbell, Ray Bradbury, HP Lovecraft, Edgar Allen Poe, Ross MacDonald, James Crumley

Favorite Movies, Actors, Genres:Love movies about the mob. Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, The Pope of Greenwich Village, Mean Streets, Casino, great stuff. Big Woody Allen fan, everything from the screwball early comedies like Sleeper to the middle period films like Annie Hall, Manhattan, or Hannah and Her Sisters. I greatly enjoy the deeper, literate later films such as Crimes and Misdemeanors, Husbands and Wives, and Deconstructing Harry, amongst others. Love many foreign films. Ingmar Bergman tops this list., Classic cinema is a favorite as well. Well crafted films like Citizen Kane, The Searchers, Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, or Rear Window, to name a few, never date. Love good horror and sci-fi/fantasy films. Not cheap, idiotic splatter films that have the subtlety of a cement mixer, but films that really build characters and build fear and tension. Love off-beat, cutting edge indie films. Some favorite actors are Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Robert Deniro, Russell Crowe, Kenneth Branagh, Lawrence Oliver, Dustin Hoffman. Some favorite actresses are Laura Linney, Francis McDermott, Jessica Lange, and Marcia Gay Harden.

Jennifer Lee, Nov 7, 2009, 1:10AM ESTHey Jase! Long time no chat. How the heck are you, man? I wasn't online much when you were posting a lot of your poems. I was getting my poems organized for a contest. Now that's done and we're both here. Yay! I noticed that you seem to read posts in the group when I miss them. I don't know if that's intentional or not, but I appreciate it anyway. Have a great weekend and please don't be a stranger. Hugs
